Green-Schools is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
It is a long-term programme that introduces participants (students, teachers, parents and the wider community) to the concept of an environmental management system.
In St Mary’s we want our students’ voices to be heard on environmental issues. A Green School Committee was formed in 2019 with representatives from each year group. Our motto is ST.MARYS– GREEN and CLEAN/tick-tock don’t waste a drop. We are currently working on our ‘Travel’ Flag, having achieved our ‘Litter and Waste’ Flag in 2021 and our’ Water’ flag in 2023.
Transition year students are active in developing the school wild garden along with the fruit and vegetable garden. We were proud of their success in being placed as runners-up in the National
‘ECO UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards 2022’ for their work on sustainability.
St. Marys HFK continues to be conscious of environmental issues and the importance of being a Green School.
