News From Week 5- Remote Teaching and Learning

Midterm Break

We all welcome a break from remote learning over the coming week and there will be no online teaching between February 15th- February 22nd. While some students (exam years) may benefit from some revision and study, we recommend that this is done offline using books and past papers. Most students will shut down completely, limit screen time and get outdoors to recharge the batteries. We wish all our students a safe and restful break.

Phased Return to School

We have not yet received any formal information about the reopening of the school. However, it is speculated that schools will reopen on a phased basis into the month of March as the ‘numbers’ continue to fall. The school is currently being deep cleaned again and all protocols will be followed to minimise risk in compliance with the guidelines.

Mock Examinations

We have not yet issued any guidance to parents regarding mock examinations as we believe that this decision is linked to any decision that will be made about the reopening of schools and the arrangements for the State Examinations. We are exploring all options and our decision will ultimately be made in the best interests of our students.

Music News

6th and 3rd year music students have been sending beautiful videos of their practical work to their teachers while learning remotely. It has been so uplifting to see their faces and hear the sweet voices. Well done girls!

Student Council Mental Health Initiative

Well done to the students who developed an information presentation for all students on the topic of Mental Health. This is the area that the Student Council has decided to focus on for this academic year, a worthy issue no doubt in these challenging times. the presentation can be viewed HERE.

Guidance

Our past pupil series continues on February 25th at 8.30pm in conversation with Molly Brennan. Molly studied Multimedia in DCU and after graduating in 2019. She progressed to achieve a Masters Degree in Digital Marketing and is now employed by DCU. Molly will share her inspirational journey through the Access route to DCU and how she never in her wildest dreams thought she would get to where she is now.

Thanks

We thank all our teachers for their hard work and commitment over the last number of weeks as they provided online teaching for students during lockdown. Many of our teachers are also juggling the demands of home schooling and caring for elderly relatives and family members with underlying conditions. We are very grateful to them.

To you the parents, THANK YOU for all the support and encouragement you have given to your daughters to help keep them engaged in their learning at this challenging time. We all look forward to better times ahead when we can return to some type of normality.
